Our Answer

How were the French and British different with their use of the Ohio country?

How did the Native Americans decide which side to fight for?

What was the Proclamation Act of 1763?
The French were interested in trading with the indians. The British wanted to build settlements. Basically, the Native Americans sided with whichever country was not trying to settle the land. They changed sides, fighting whichever side was most likely to take land away from them.
The British did not want to spend money fighting the Native Americans, so they wrote the Proclamation Act of 1763. Any British colonists were supposed to leave territory west of the Appalachian mountains. No troops would be sent to save them from Indian attacks. Many colonists did not like the law and continued to settle the land. They were not protected from attacks.
