What are artifacts?

Our Answer

Artifacts are objects made by people a long time ago. Most of the time they are found in the ground. The Adena Pipe is an artifact that was discovered in an Adena Mound near the Scioto River in Chillicothe in 1901. This tube shape type of pipe was common in the Adena culture (800 BCE-100 CE). The Adena Pipe is a very important artifact and is part of the Ohio History Collection. The Pipe is a model of an ancient Indian man.The pipe gives us details about what people might have worn and looked like more than two thousand years ago. Even though there are many questions about this artifact, we can use the information to figure out clues from our past.
